Acting: Grades 5 to 12

Our Acting program develops you as an individual artist and as an effective member of a creative ensemble. Each course draws from specific techniques to develop your mind, voice and body for a confident and honest performance before a live audience.

BEGINNING ACTING

Grades 5 – 6

These courses develop your internal and external resources for a successful performance before a live audience. You’ll explore the practical tools of rehearsal; stage directions, blocking, memorization and the ability to work as a respectful member of an ensemble. You will also develop fluency in fundamentals of acting as you make choices regarding character, dialogue, environment, conflict and action, in order to bring scenes to life.

Summer: Mondays and Wednesdays, June 25-July 18

 
ACTING I

Grades 7 – 8

This course sets the foundation for progression into our advanced acting courses. Each term is designed to stimulate and challenge you in different areas of theatre, from individually creating characters to collaborating with others while exploring new plays.

Summer: Tuesdays and Thursdays, Jun 26-Jul 19

 
ACTING II
Grades 9 – 12
(Grades 7 – 8 by audition or invitation)

In this course, you are challenged to increase your personal range and honesty in performance. Essential exercises in relaxation, concentration, diction, projection and movement are explored. Acting techniques in character objective, obstacle and action are rigorously investigated.

Summer: Mondays and Wednesdays, June 25-July 18

 
ACTING III
Grades 9 – 12
(By audition or invitation only)

This ongoing advanced level class will challenge FYT students to use all of their theatrical knowledge gained in Acting I and II. Students will work with FYT Artists to stage short performances, ranging from classical to contemporary styles. Each term will focus on a different play specifically selected for the students in the course.
