April 16 - May 1, 2010
Based on the story written by Jean Giono, Adapted by William P. Ward
Directed by Walter Hill and William P. Ward, Choreographed by Margaret A. Mead-Finizio
Are you willing to do the right thing when there is no benefit to you?
Southern France. 1910. A shepherd heals the blight of his land by planting one tree at a time. As the trees grow and people return, his simple action restores life to a barren place while instilling hope in the people.
Tree by tree, a poor shepherd plants a thriving forest, thereby saving an abandoned valley. The impact of his action grows with each small seed he plants. Day by day the shepherd faithfully keeps his promise while expecting no reward or acknowledgement. Along the way he inspires those around him including a young hiker intrigued by the shepherd’s commitment. This parable provides a striking illustration of the old adage:
A person’s life is not measured by how good it was but by how much good it brought others.
A conversation with the creative team will follow each performance.

July 23 - August 7, 2010
Based on the novel written by Michael Ende, Adapted for the stage by David S. Craig
Directed by Walter Hill, Choreographed by Margaret A. Mead-Finizio
Are you willing to face your fear of the unknown on a journey to help others?
Two different worlds: One common boy. Escaping his everyday troubles by reading an amazing book, a boy ventures into a world of fantasy. There, he discovers his imagination is the best hope for saving that world and its inhabitants and facing his fears in his own world.
The peaceful world of Fantastica is threatened with annihilation by The Nothing. Its citizens implore, “Where is the hero who will prevail?” When a young boy is called upon to save the threatened world, he encounters fantastic creatures of all shapes and sizes. While he must battle some, others help him on his journey through the perils of treacherous lands. As Bastian reads this extraordinary book, his imagination draws him away from the troubles of his own life and deeper into the story. It is in this new realm where he discovers the courage needed to succeed in both worlds.

ANGEL IN THE NIGHT
October 9 - 24, 2009
Written by Joanna Halpert Kraus
Directed by Walter Hill
Would you risk your life to protect a stranger?
Marysia's commitment to protect four strangers is a daily decision to act courageously in the midst of fear. This real-life hero gave food, clothing and shelter to four people in need and gives hope to all who hear her story.
Poland. World War II. The Nazi regime has turned Marysia Pawlina Szul's world upside down. Unlike her Jewish neighbors, this Polish Catholic teenager isn't being targeted for the death camps, but taking a stand against the Nazis means almost certain death. Despite this constant threat and against her mother’s wishes, Marysia decides to shelter and protect a desperate Jewish woman and three helpless Jewish children. This inspirational, true story is a compelling testament to how one individual, with unrelenting courage bolstered by true compassion, can affect the outcome of dire circumstances in which the stakes are nothing short of life and death.
A conversation with the creative team will follow each performance.

IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE
December 4 - 19, 2009
Based on the film by Frank Capra, Adapted by James W. Rogers
Directed by Walter Hill
Would you be willing to sacrifice your ambitions to honor notions of family obligation and civic duty?
For the good of his neighbors in his hometown, George Bailey spends his entire life selflessly giving up his dreams of going places and doing great things. His story is a heartfelt illustration of the difference one person can make in rekindling community pride and hope.
Bedford Falls. Christmas Eve, 1945. Having fallen victim to the plot of an evil millionaire, the despondent George Bailey realizes he is worth more dead than alive. Wishing he had never been born, George stands on a bridge contemplating taking his own life. When Clarence, his guardian angel, appears to convince him otherwise, George is given a revealing look at how different things would have been had he never lived. He learns how his life-long generosity has continually touched the lives of his family, his friends and the citizens of Bedford Falls. With its themes of civic responsibility and spiritual redemption, this perennial story takes on renewed relevance during our current economic challenges by examining what we value most.
A conversation with the creative team will follow each performance.

THE ANDERSONVILLE TRIAL
February 12-27, 2010
Written by Saul Levitt
Directed by William P. Ward, Choreographed by Margaret A. Mead-Finizio
Would you risk your job by not following an order you knew was wrong?
A man is prosecuted for Civil War crimes. His trial challenges every citizen, whether Union or Confederate, to leave a tragic past and move toward a hopeful future.
Washington, D.C. 1865. Following the brutality of the Civil War, the relentless questions of “why” and “how” are being asked by a broken nation, grasping desperately to heal itself. Why was the Andersonville prisoner-of-war camp, commanded by Confederate Captain Henry Wirz, merely a stockade providing no adequate shelter? Why did he not object to the starvation and neglect of his own countrymen? How could Wirz stand by as, by his own account, a hundred Union soldiers died each day under his watch? Taken from actual trial transcripts, this gripping play asks when a person’s responsibility to their conscience surpasses the demands of power or authority.
A conversation with the creative team will follow each performance.
