Music Makers (Birth -5)

Nurture your child’s musical ability in this fun, exciting and innovative music and movement class. Music Makers gives you and your child the opportunity to creatively explore a variety of musical ideas and possibilities, all while encouraging genuine enthusiasm for music at your little one’s most vital time of development. You also play an important role in this fun and interactive class. The Early Childhood Music Program is based on the Gordon Music Learning Theory. Three different classes provide age-appropriate experiences for your child: Beginning Music Makers, Intermediate Music Makers and Advanced Music Makers .

Young Musicians Class (ages 3-10)
Does your child show an interest in music? Would you like help selecting an instrument that may be just right for your child? Then Young Musicians is the perfect place to start! In this high-energy weekly class, students will learn about rhythm, note reading, musical terms and listening skills in an age-appropriate way–taught by a professional musician. Over the course of a year, members of our highly-trained faculty will demonstrate instruments from the wind, brass, string and percussion families. Your child will get to try many of these instruments and may find the one that’s perfect!

Percussion Classes (ages 4-9)
These innovative group classes for beginners incorporate basic snare and rhythm techniques. They include a fun, yet thorough, exploration of over 100 percussion instruments.

Piano Classes (ages 6-adult)
Play the piano at almost any age! Learn the basics using a variety of music in our state-of-the-art piano lab. Parents, come on along and participate with your children!

String Classes (ages 5-12) 
This dynamic group class for beginning and intermediate students builds a great musical foundation by incorporating both Suzuki and traditional techniques. After just one year, you’ll have the opportunity to continue by enrolling in private lessons and playing in the Intermezzo Strings Class. You’ll learn a variety of music including classical, fiddling and more.

Voice Classes (ages 4-12)
For young singers, this class offers it all. Learn to sing with others your age and receive individual attention as well. You’ll learn healthy vocal production, breathing technique and basic music theory. You’ll even have a chance to help select the music!

Show Choir (ages 5-18)
Show Choir Camp is an exciting opportunity for students who like to sing and dance. Learn the basics of vocal production, choreography, performance etiquette and stage presence. Each class, students will participate in vocal and movement exercises as well as rehearsing musical numbers for a spectacular final performance!

Jazz Ensemble (Ages 16-Adult)
Where can you play combo arrangements of famous jazz tunes by Miles Davis and Horace Silver, transcribed directly from their original albums? With the FSPA’s Jazz Ensemble! The Jazz Ensemble offers a great way for anyone aged 16 to adult to play jazz and learn more about the art of improvisation. Jeff Price, who has teaches saxophone for several years at the FSPA, will lead weekly sessions.

Adult Studio Class (Adult)
For FSPA adult instrumental, ensemble or voice students, this is a great way to make the most of your practice time, and deepen your musical knowledge at the same time. Learn more about practice techniques, performance anxiety, musical analysis, etc., and perform for one another on a regular basis. Meets monthly.

New Horizons Band (Adult)
Did you play in high school, but haven’t picked up your instrument much since then? This is the place for you. You’ll have the advantage of small group sectional rehearsals, as well as, band rehearsals. If you’re a beginner who has never played an instrument and would like to discover the fun of making music, this is your chance. Instructors will meet with you to help you select an instrument and get started in this fun, no-pressure group. Great for Beginners to Intermediate musicians! Wednesdays, 6:30-8:30 pm.

World Percussion: Hand Drums and More! (Ages 16-Adult)
March to the beat of a different drum, or in this case, several! Learn about instruments from Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East. You will study similarities among the musical traditions from around the world, and how they often blended together. This class will feature an overview of basic musical elements and rhythm. By the end you and your classmates will be able to perform pieces that blend several cultural styles on instruments such as congas, djembes, doumbeks, and cowbells. No prior experience required!
