Beethoven, Overture to Coriolan, op. 62
Diemecke, Concierto Otoñal for Marimba and Orchestra
Mahler, Symphony No. 1 in D major (Titan)

Enrique Diemecke, conductor • Saúl Medina, marimba

Transported by music as we travel the world over, our adventure takes us from majestic mountaintops to expansive valleys. Resplendent highs and lows of intense instrumental textures resonate with the rhythm of our progression. Beethoven’s Austrian-composed overture opens the evening, summoning the tale of Coriolanus, the vengeful war-seeker evicted from Rome. Jumping to present-day North America, Maestro Diemecke’s marimba concerto is presented to us in its North American premiere by a stunning young artist. Then back to Europe, as the concert concludes with German composer Mahler’s most popular symphony complete in its five-movement form.
